  1. 2010-04-20 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  2. * lfs/init.d/udev, lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Add --action=add, to handle udev
  3. version 152 and newer, which send "change" events by default in udevtrigger
  4. now.
  5. 2010-01-24 Matthew Burgess <matthew@linuxfromscratch.org>
  6. * lfs/init.d/udev: Check to see if /dev is already mounted, as it may be if
  7. under an initramfs environment. See ticket #2550.
  8. 2009-08-14 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  9. * lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Use "udevadm trigger --type=failed", which
  10. apparently replaced "--retry-failed" some time ago. "--retry-failed" is
  11. removed in udev-146.
  12. 2009-01-02 Bruce Dubbs <bdubbs@linuxfromscratch.org>
  13. * lfs/init.d/functions:
  14. * lfs/sysconfig/network-devices/ifup:
  15. Updated line widths to accomodate pdf generation in both the above
  16. files.
  17. 2008-10-27 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
  18. * lfs/init.d/cleanfs: Removed '! -newer /proc' from find commands in
  19. check for stale files in /var/lock and /var/run.
  20. * Makefile: Reversed cleanfs and udev_retry scripts so that cleanfs
  21. runs immediately after mountfs.
  22. 2008-10-26 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  23. * lfs/init.d/functions: Remove stale pid files when encountered
  24. in loadproc/killproc/reloadproc. When the bootscript specifies
  25. a pid file to use with the "-p pidfile" argument, *proc
  26. functions previously bailed out when the referenced file
  27. contains an invalid pid.
  28. 2008-10-23 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
  29. * lfs/init.d/console: Removed BROKEN_COMPOSE as kernel patch has
  30. been accepted upstream.
  31. 2008-05-21 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  32. * lfs/init.d/udev, lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Use new udevadm program.
  33. 2007-08-20 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
  34. * lfs/init.d/setclock: Added missing 'stop' argument to usage text
  35. 2007-08-13 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  36. * lfs/init.d/checkfs: Don't suppress error messages from the screen.
  37. 2007-07-18 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  38. * Makefile, lfs/init.d/consolelog: New bootscript controlling the
  39. kernel log level on the console. This is controlled by the LOGLEVEL
  40. variable in /etc/sysconfig/console.
  41. * lfs/init.d/modules: Remove the log level handling since this is
  42. done in the consolelog script now.
  43. * lfs/init.d/modules: Clean up the script by removing the file
  44. descriptor duplication and instead just redirecting
  45. /etc/sysconfig/modules to the input of the while loop.
  46. 2007-06-16 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  47. * lfs/init.d/mountfs, lfs/init.d/mountkernfs, lfs/init.d/setclock,
  48. lfs/init.d/modules, lfs/sysconfig/network-devices/if{up,down}:
  49. Don't suppress stderr during bootscripts unless necessary. This
  50. would prevent potentially critical messages from reaching the screen.
  51. 2007-04-24 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  52. * lfs/init.d/functions: When killproc is executed, it checks that
  53. the process is still running, sleeps if it is, then checks again.
  54. The sleep is 1 second in between checks. By sleeping for 0.1 seconds
  55. in between checks, killproc is much faster as it's wasting much
  56. less time sleeping in the normal case that the process has died
  57. after a short delay.
  58. 2007-04-16 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  59. * lfs/init.d/functions: Redirect stderr when using kill to suppress
  60. output.
  61. * lfs/init.d/functions: killproc() was not handling the case where a
  62. pidfile is passed to the function. The logic with the signal to be
  63. used was causing issues with the handling of pidfiles. This has been
  64. fixes, and now killproc() will recheck the process if the signal
  65. was TERM (the default) or KILL.
  66. * lfs/init.d/functions: statusproc() has been changed to use pidofproc()
  67. instead of the deprecated getpids(). Additionally, it now accepts
  68. the -p argument to specify a pidfile.
  69. * lfs/init.d/functions: Currently, statusproc() always returns
  70. successfully, and the only way to know if the process is running
  71. is to parse the output. This changes statusproc() to return the
  72. status of pidofproc(), which will return unsuccessfully if the
  73. requested process is not running.
  74. * lfs/init.d/functions: Changed reloadproc() to use pidofproc() and
  75. respect the -p argument for pidfiles.
  76. * lfs/init.d/sysklogd: Remove a useless argument to reloadproc().
  77. 2007-03-13 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  78. * lfs/init.d/functions: If pidofproc() is passed the -p argument
  79. it can bomb testing a null variable with an integer expression.
  80. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  81. * lfs/init.d/mountfs, lfs/init.d/console, lfs/init.d/setclock,
  82. lfs/init.d/mountkernfs: &> redirection is not supported in POSIX.
  83. Fortunately, it's equivalent to >word 2>&1 according to bash(1).
  84. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  85. * lfs/init.d/console: POSIX says that shells only need to trap on
  86. signals. Trapping on ERR isn't always supported. Conditionals have
  87. been added to set the $failed variable in spots that seemed
  88. appropriate for checking errors.
  89. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  90. * lfs/init.d/functions: Use arithmetic expansion and string length,
  91. which are both mandated by POSIX, rather than spawning two processes
  92. every time boot_mesg() is called.
  93. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  94. * lfs/init.d/functions: In order to provide an `echo' which provides
  95. handles the -e and -n options for all POSIX shells, a feature test
  96. is added which stores its result in $ECHO. /bin/echo will be used
  97. if the default echo is not capable. Changed the existing functions
  98. to reference $ECHO when needed.
  99. * lfs/init.d/console: Use $ECHO when -en is needed.
  100. 2007-02-03 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  101. * ChangeLog: Rename from CHANGELOG, start using GNU style entries.
  102. * Makefile: Move setclock before checkfs. Fixes #1948.
  103. 2006-11-25 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  104. * lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Copy Debian's "copy generated rules" initscript
  105. code, to clean up when the rule_generator scripts run before / is
  106. writable. (Since the rule_generator code is from Debian, I assume their
  107. cleanup code is appropriate.)
  108. 2006-10-15 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>

  639. * Switched "Press enter to continue" to "Press <ctrl-j> to continue"
  640. * replaced 3 with $KILLDELAY in sendsignals
  641. * mountfs does not mount network filesystems [identified by _netdev
  642. in /etc/fstab]
  643. * removed unneded touch out of cleanfs
  644. n/a - January 30, 2004:
  645. * New maintainers for the lfs-bootscripts package are:
  646. Jeremy Utley (jeremy@linuxfromscratch.org)
  647. Nathan Coulson (nathan@linuxfromscratch.org)
  648. 1.11 - February 3rd, 2003:
  649. * /etc/mtab is now a real file and is handled correctly so there are
  650. no errors even when the machine has crashed.
  651. 1.10 - September 12th, 2002:
  652. * Fixed up checkfs to work with non-ext2 filesystems too (such as
  653. minix).
  654. 1.9 - April 5th, 2002:
  655. * reloadproc function had a missing '=' in the "failure 1" command (it
  656. should be failure=1)
  657. * When script exists with unexpected value, you have to hit "Enter" to
  658. continue, not just a random key as printed on the screen.
  659. * Moved K10sysklogd, K20sendsignals, K30mount and K40swap to
  660. K40sysklogd, K50sendsignals, K60mount, K70swap
  661. * Changed the #!/bin/sh lines to #!/bin/bash - /bin/sh may not be
  662. linked to bash but to some other shell of your choice. These scripts
  663. are written to work with bash, so you can't just run them when
  664. /bin/sh -> csh or ash or whatever else tickles your fancy. This
  665. change should fix that.
  666. 1.8 - March 14th, 2002:
  667. * Fixed the getpids function call so PPID's would be taken into account
  668. properly.
  669. * Added the 'contrib' directory with other people's bootscript
  670. implementations.
  671. 1.7 - March 10th, 2002:
  672. * Used code from Matthias Benkmann's simpleinit-msb @
  673. http://winterdrache.de/linux/newboot/index.html mainly for improved
  674. killproc function handling
  675. * When a requested process isn't running, or is already running, a
  676. warning "Not running" or "Already running" will be displayed. This
  677. was out of allignment due to a missing $CURS_UP
  678. * Removed "||exit" from ifup and ifdown scripts. They are useless.
  679. * Changed the loadkeys script to run "loadkeys -d" and removed the need
  680. for the /etc/sysconfig/keyboard file. The kbd patch fixes the
  681. "loadkeys -d" behaviour.
  682. 1.6 - February 26th, 2002:
  683. * replaced -o %PPID with -o $PPID throughout the functions script. This
  684. construct does what it's supposed to do (don't take PPID into account
  685. because this would fail if a running daemon and the bootscript have
  686. the same name).
  687. * added 'restart' to the swap script
  688. * instead of using 'echo -n' to supress newlines so the [ OK ] and
  689. related messages allign properly, substitute this with a single echo
  690. command that simply goes one line up before outputting anything. This
  691. also has the benefit that when programs have their own output (like
  692. swapon, fsck and loadkeys), there won't be an unwanted blank line
  693. between the program's output and the [ OK ] et all. messages.
  694. 1.5 - February 2nd, 2002:
  695. * added 'exit 1' to the statusproc function when there aren't enough
  696. parameters passed to it (such as the name of process to check for)
  697. 1.4 - February 2nd, 2002:
  698. * when /fastboot is detected and the message about it is printed,
  699. don't run 'exit 1' else the rc script will cause a [FAILED] to
  700. be printed which is undesired in this case.
  701. 1.3 - January 30th, 2002:
  702. * network script: changed default route detection by using the same
  703. method as used when starting the script: check if the GATEWAY
  704. variable is set
  705. * removed the emptying of /etc/mtab since it's a symlink to
  706. /proc/mounts now
  707. * added the mountproc script which mounts the proc system. This is done
  708. because we need proc mounted even before the mountfs script is ran
  709. (now that /etc/mtab is a symlink to /proc/mounts)
  710. * removed all absolute paths from command calls
  711. * added umask 022 and PATH="/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin" to the
  712. functions script. Every file now sources this so that umask and PATH
  713. are set correctly
  714. 1.2 - January 26th, 2002:
  715. * network script: detect if a default route is set before removing it
