  2. <para>The <command>checkfs</command> script checks the file systems just
  3. before they are mounted (with the exception of journal and network based
  4. file systems).</para>
  5. <para>The <command>cleanfs</command> script removes files that shouldn't be
  6. preserved between reboots, such as those in <filename>/var/run/</filename> and
  7. <filename>/var/lock/</filename>. It re-creates <filename>/var/run/utmp</filename>
  8. and removes the possibly present <filename>/etc/nologin</filename>,
  9. <filename>/fastboot</filename> and <filename>/forcefsck</filename> files.</para>
  10. <para>The <command>functions</command> script contains functions shared among
  11. different scripts, such as error and status checking.</para>
  12. <para>The <command>halt</command> script halts the system.</para>
  13. <para>The <command>ifdown</command> and <command>ifup</command> scripts assist
  14. the network script with network devices.</para>
  15. <para>The <command>loadkeys</command> script loads the keymap table you
  16. specified as proper for your keyboard layout.</para>
  17. <para>The <command>localnet</command> script sets up the system's hostname and
  18. local loopback device.</para>
  19. <para>The <command>mountfs</command> script mounts all file systems that
  20. aren't marked <emphasis>noauto</emphasis> or aren't network based.</para>
  21. <para>The <command>mountproc</command> script is used to mount the proc
  22. file system.</para>

  24. as network cards, and sets up the default gateway where applicable.</para>
  25. <para>The <command>rc</command> script is the master runlevel control script.
  26. It is responsible for running all the other scripts one-by-one in a specific
  27. sequence.</para>

  29. <para>The <command>sendsignals</command> script makes sure every process is
  30. terminated before the system reboots or halts.</para>
  31. <para>The <command>setclock</command> script resets the kernel clock to
  32. localtime in case the hardware clock isn't set to GMT time.</para>
  33. <para>The <command>swap</command> script enables and disables swap files and
  34. partitions.</para>
  35. <para>The <command>sysklogd</command> script starts and stops the system and
  36. kernel log daemons.</para>
