  1. 2008-10-23 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
  2. * lfs/init.d/console: Removed BROKEN_COMPOSE as kernel patch has
  3. been accepted upstream.
  4. 2008-05-21 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  5. * lfs/init.d/udev: lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Use new udevadm program.
  6. 2007-08-20 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
  7. * lfs/init.d/setclock: Added missing 'stop' argument to usage text
  8. 2007-08-13 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  9. * lfs/init.d/checkfs: Don't suppress error messages from the screen.
  10. 2007-07-18 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  11. * Makefile, lfs/init.d/consolelog: New bootscript controlling the
  12. kernel log level on the console. This is controlled by the LOGLEVEL
  13. variable in /etc/sysconfig/console.
  14. * lfs/init.d/modules: Remove the log level handling since this is
  15. done in the consolelog script now.
  16. * lfs/init.d/modules: Clean up the script by removing the file
  17. descriptor duplication and instead just redirecting
  18. /etc/sysconfig/modules to the input of the while loop.
  19. 2007-06-16 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  20. * lfs/init.d/mountfs, lfs/init.d/mountkernfs, lfs/init.d/setclock,
  21. lfs/init.d/modules, lfs/sysconfig/network-devices/if{up,down}:
  22. Don't suppress stderr during bootscripts unless necessary. This
  23. would prevent potentially critical messages from reaching the screen.
  24. 2007-04-24 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  25. * lfs/init.d/functions: When killproc is executed, it checks that
  26. the process is still running, sleeps if it is, then checks again.
  27. The sleep is 1 second in between checks. By sleeping for 0.1 seconds
  28. in between checks, killproc is much faster as it's wasting much
  29. less time sleeping in the normal case that the process has died
  30. after a short delay.
  31. 2007-04-16 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  32. * lfs/init.d/functions: Redirect stderr when using kill to suppress
  33. output.
  34. * lfs/init.d/functions: killproc() was not handling the case where a
  35. pidfile is passed to the function. The logic with the signal to be
  36. used was causing issues with the handling of pidfiles. This has been
  37. fixes, and now killproc() will recheck the process if the signal
  38. was TERM (the default) or KILL.
  39. * lfs/init.d/functions: statusproc() has been changed to use pidofproc()
  40. instead of the deprecated getpids(). Additionally, it now accepts
  41. the -p argument to specify a pidfile.
  42. * lfs/init.d/functions: Currently, statusproc() always returns
  43. successfully, and the only way to know if the process is running
  44. is to parse the output. This changes statusproc() to return the
  45. status of pidofproc(), which will return unsuccessfully if the
  46. requested process is not running.
  47. * lfs/init.d/functions: Changed reloadproc() to use pidofproc() and
  48. respect the -p argument for pidfiles.
  49. * lfs/init.d/sysklogd: Remove a useless argument to reloadproc().
  50. 2007-03-13 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  51. * lfs/init.d/functions: If pidofproc() is passed the -p argument
  52. it can bomb testing a null variable with an integer expression.
  53. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  54. * lfs/init.d/mountfs, lfs/init.d/console, lfs/init.d/setclock,
  55. lfs/init.d/mountkernfs: &> redirection is not supported in POSIX.
  56. Fortunately, it's equivalent to >word 2>&1 according to bash(1).
  57. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  58. * lfs/init.d/console: POSIX says that shells only need to trap on
  59. signals. Trapping on ERR isn't always supported. Conditionals have
  60. been added to set the $failed variable in spots that seemed
  61. appropriate for checking errors.
  62. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  63. * lfs/init.d/functions: Use arithmetic expansion and string length,
  64. which are both mandated by POSIX, rather than spawning two processes
  65. every time boot_mesg() is called.
  66. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  67. * lfs/init.d/functions: In order to provide an `echo' which provides
  68. handles the -e and -n options for all POSIX shells, a feature test
  69. is added which stores its result in $ECHO. /bin/echo will be used
  70. if the default echo is not capable. Changed the existing functions
  71. to reference $ECHO when needed.
  72. * lfs/init.d/console: Use $ECHO when -en is needed.
  73. 2007-02-03 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  74. * ChangeLog: Rename from CHANGELOG, start using GNU style entries.
  75. * Makefile: Move setclock before checkfs. Fixes #1948.
  76. 2006-11-25 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  77. * lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Copy Debian's "copy generated rules" initscript
  78. code, to clean up when the rule_generator scripts run before / is
  79. writable. (Since the rule_generator code is from Debian, I assume their
  80. cleanup code is appropriate.)
  81. 2006-10-15 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>

  645. http://winterdrache.de/linux/newboot/index.html mainly for improved
  646. killproc function handling
  647. * When a requested process isn't running, or is already running, a
  648. warning "Not running" or "Already running" will be displayed. This
  649. was out of allignment due to a missing $CURS_UP
  650. * Removed "||exit" from ifup and ifdown scripts. They are useless.
  651. * Changed the loadkeys script to run "loadkeys -d" and removed the need
  652. for the /etc/sysconfig/keyboard file. The kbd patch fixes the
  653. "loadkeys -d" behaviour.
  654. 1.6 - February 26th, 2002:
  655. * replaced -o %PPID with -o $PPID throughout the functions script. This
  656. construct does what it's supposed to do (don't take PPID into account
  657. because this would fail if a running daemon and the bootscript have
  658. the same name).
  659. * added 'restart' to the swap script
  660. * instead of using 'echo -n' to supress newlines so the [ OK ] and
  661. related messages allign properly, substitute this with a single echo
  662. command that simply goes one line up before outputting anything. This
  663. also has the benefit that when programs have their own output (like
  664. swapon, fsck and loadkeys), there won't be an unwanted blank line
  665. between the program's output and the [ OK ] et all. messages.
  666. 1.5 - February 2nd, 2002:
  667. * added 'exit 1' to the statusproc function when there aren't enough
  668. parameters passed to it (such as the name of process to check for)
  669. 1.4 - February 2nd, 2002:
  670. * when /fastboot is detected and the message about it is printed,
  671. don't run 'exit 1' else the rc script will cause a [FAILED] to
  672. be printed which is undesired in this case.
  673. 1.3 - January 30th, 2002:
  674. * network script: changed default route detection by using the same
  675. method as used when starting the script: check if the GATEWAY
  676. variable is set
  677. * removed the emptying of /etc/mtab since it's a symlink to
  678. /proc/mounts now
  679. * added the mountproc script which mounts the proc system. This is done
  680. because we need proc mounted even before the mountfs script is ran
  681. (now that /etc/mtab is a symlink to /proc/mounts)
  682. * removed all absolute paths from command calls
  683. * added umask 022 and PATH="/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin" to the
  684. functions script. Every file now sources this so that umask and PATH
  685. are set correctly
  686. 1.2 - January 26th, 2002:
  687. * network script: detect if a default route is set before removing it
