  34. <title>Installation of Coreutils</title>
  35. <para>Prepare Coreutils for compilation:</para>

  37. <para>Compile the package:</para>
  38. <screen><userinput>make</userinput></screen>
  39. <para>To test the results, issue:
  40. <userinput>make RUN_EXPENSIVE_TESTS=yes check</userinput>. The
  41. <parameter>RUN_EXPENSIVE_TESTS=yes</parameter> parameter tells the
  42. test suite to run several additional tests that are considered
  43. relatively expensive (in terms of CPU power and memory usage) on some
  44. platforms, but generally are not a problem on Linux.</para>
  45. <para>Install the package:</para>
  46. <screen><userinput>make install</userinput></screen>
  47. <para>The above command refuses to install <filename>su</filename>
  48. because it cannot install it setuid root as a non-privileged user. By
  49. manually installing it with a different name, we can use it for running
  50. tests in the final system as a non-privileged user and we keep a possibly
  51. useful <command>su</command> from our host first place in our PATH. Install
  52. it with:</para>
