  3. <para>Install Bzip2 by running the following commands:</para>

  5. make -f Makefile-libbz2_so &amp;&amp;
  6. rm /usr/bin/bz* &amp;&amp;
  7. make PREFIX=/usr install &amp;&amp;
  8. cp bzip2-shared /bin/bzip2 &amp;&amp;
  9. ln -s libbz2.so.1.0 libbz2.so &amp;&amp;
  10. cp -a libbz2.so* /lib &amp;&amp;
  11. cd /usr/lib &amp;&amp;

  14. rm bunzip2 bzcat bzip2 &amp;&amp;
  15. rm /bin/bzless /bin/bzmore &amp;&amp;

  18. ln -sf bzip2 bunzip2 &amp;&amp;

  20. <para>Although it's not strictly a part of a basic LFS system it's worth
  21. mentioning that a patch for Tar can be downloaded which enables the tar
  22. program to compress and uncompress using bzip2/bunzip2 easily. With a
  23. plain tar, you have to use constructions like bzcat file.tar.bz|tar
  24. xv or tar --use-compress-prog=bunzip2 -xvf file.tar.bz2 to use bzip2 and
  25. bunzip2 with tar. This patch provides the -j option so you can unpack a
  26. Bzip2 archive with tar xvfj file.tar.bz2. Applying this patch will be
  27. mentioned later on when the Tar package is re-installed.</para>
