  1. These are the TODO items for the next LFS release (3.0):
  2. * Create appendix D - Known problems, group by package, list symptoms
  3. of known problems and solutions (example is the libcurses.a symlink
  4. in chapter 5, bash)
  5. * Chapter 5, bash: add note that when error occurs regarding
  6. install-info (on Debian systems for example) it can be safely
  7. ignored.
  8. * Chapter 5, bash: when the 'install-info' error corrurs on Debian
  9. systems, check if this affects && (the message is Error 2 (ignored)
  10. but does that mean the return value is set to 0 as well...)
  11. * Check if findutils dumps binaries in /usr/local/bin
  12. * Try out latest shadow suite. If it fails with "nflg undefined" change
  13. this in useradd.c : line 1768:
  14. -if (! (nflg || gflg)) {
  15. +if (!gflg) {
  16. * Make a note that during the first reboot an error from sysklogd is
  17. normal due to missing /etc/services|protocols files which are
  18. installed when netkit-base is installed later on in chapter 9
  19. * Chapter 3: mention lfs-packages isn't for CVS
  20. * Fix the static link problems some distro's are causing
  21. * Clean out the ethnet script (for interface in $(ls
  22. /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg* | grep -v ifcfg-lo)
  23. do) needs some updating for example)
  24. * Don't use \u in PS1 when entering chroot to avoid the 'i have no
  25. name'. After Glibc installation we could modify the PS1 (export
  26. PS1=newvalues) and test that way if glibc is working properly. This
  27. saves us the having to exit and re-enter chroot environtment. Another
  28. idea is to run 'id' or 'whoami' after Glibc installation and check if
  29. it's able to find a matching username with root's id.
  30. * Instead of rm file && ln -s source dest, use ln -sf source dest
  31. * e2fsprogs apparently needs ldconfig. Check if there are other
  32. packages before e2fsprogs which use ldconfig when it's present
  33. * Mention more hints through out the books (like BSD hint before
  34. staring with chapter 7, devfs hint before running MAKEDEV, etc)
  35. * Consider ftp://ftp.win.tue.nl/pub/linux-local/utils/kbd/
  36. to replace console-tools/console-data
  37. * Try new procps install:
  38. make OPT="$CFLAGS" INCDIRS='-I/usr/include -I.' XSCPT='' install
  39. * When installing Glibc in chapter 6 the mtrace program isn't
  40. build. Find out why.
  41. * Incorporate LFS FAQ in the book
  42. * Full dependency list. This list isn't just a list of "package a depends
  43. on package b", but also a list of "package a depends on b and c from
  44. package d"
  45. * Bring the book up to speed with the current FHS specs.
  46. * Mention security patches that can be applied to packages.
  47. * Don't run lilo from inside chroot anymore. This causes severe problems
  48. sometimes including LILO not bootstrapping properly.
  49. * Bring back the PPC book (recreate from scratch using current intel
  50. book) using Jesse McCrosky's notes at
  51. http://download.linuxfromscratch.org/misc/ppc-notes.txt
  52. and the patch to the 'patch' package at:
  53. http://download.linuxfromscratch.org/misc/ppc-patch.patch
  54. * Add descriptions what the patches do we use (like the console-tools and gzip
  55. patches)
  56. * Try out Slackware's MAKEDEV script and see if it's any better than the
  57. currently used one. A copy can be found at
  58. http://download.linuxfromscratch.org/misc/Slackware-MAKEDEV
  59. * Add netkit-base and net-tools to Appendix A.
  60. * Suggest using this command to strip debug symbols after you finish
  61. chapter 6: find $LFS -type f -exec strip --strip-debug '{}' ';'
  62. * Fix typo on line 16 of intel/chapter7/usage.xml (added by nomis80)
