  2. <title>Installation of Glibc</title>
  3. <para>Once glibc has been unpacked as usual and you have cd'ed into the
  4. glibc-&glibc-version; directory, unpack glibc-linuxthreads inside
  5. the glibc-&glibc-version; directory, not in /usr/src as you normally
  6. would do.</para>
  7. <para>Install Glibc by running the following commands:</para>

  28. <para>During the configure stage you will see the following warning:</para>
  29. <blockquote><screen>configure: warning:
  30. *** An auxiliary program is missing or too old;
  31. *** some features will be disabled.
  32. *** Check the INSTALL file for required versions.</screen></blockquote>
  33. <para>This warning refers to the missing msgfmt program from the gettext
  34. package. But there is nothing to worry about: Glib will still be
  35. installed the same way as when msgfmt is present. It can safely be
  36. ignored in our case.</para>
  37. <para>The last two commands make you exit and re-enter the chroot'ed
  38. environment and re-entering it. This is done to get rid of the "I have
  39. no name!" message in the command prompt, which was caused by bash's
  40. inability to resolve a userid to a username (which in turn was caused by
  41. the missing Glibc installation).</para>
