  1. These are the TODO items for the next LFS release (3.0):
  2. * Check if findutils dumps binaries in /usr/local/bin
  3. * Try out latest shadow suite. If it fails with "nflg undefined" change
  4. this in useradd.c : line 1768:
  5. -if (! (nflg || gflg)) {
  6. +if (!gflg) {
  7. * Make a note that during the first reboot an error from sysklogd is
  8. normal due to missing /etc/services|protocols files which are
  9. installed when netkit-base is installed later on in chapter 9
  10. * Chapter 3: mention lfs-packages isn't for CVS
  11. * Fix the static link problems some distro's are causing
  12. * Clean out the ethnet script (for interface in $(ls
  13. /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg* | grep -v ifcfg-lo)
  14. do) needs some updating for example)
  15. * Don't use \u in PS1 when entering chroot to avoid the 'i have no
  16. name'. After Glibc installation we could modify the PS1 (export
  17. PS1=newvalues) and test that way if glibc is working properly. This
  18. saves us the having to exit and re-end chroot environtment. Another
  19. idea is to run 'id' or 'whoami' after Glibc installation and check if
  20. it's able to find a matching username with root's id.
  21. * Instead of rm file && ln -s source dest, use ln -sf source dest
  22. * e2fsprogs apparently needs ldconfig. Check if there are other
  23. packages before e2fsprogs which use ldconfig when it's present
  24. * Mention more hints through out the books (like BSD hint before
  25. staring with chapter 7, devfs hint before running MAKEDEV, etc)
  26. * Fix the layout of intel/chapter7/usage.xml
  27. * Consider ftp://ftp.win.tue.nl/pub/linux-local/utils/kbd/
  28. to replace console-tools/console-data
  29. * Try new procps install:
  30. make OPT="$CFLAGS" INCDIRS='-I/usr/include -I.' XSCPT='' install
  31. * When installing Glibc in chapter 6 glibc-build/login/pt_chown isn't
  32. installed (we'll copy manually for now) and the mtrace program isn't
  33. build. Find out why.
  34. * Incorporate LFS FAQ in the book
  35. * Full dependency list. This list isn't a list of "package a depends on
  36. package b", but a list of "package a depends on b and c from
  37. package d"
  38. * Bring the book up to speed with the current FHS specs.
  39. * Mention security patches that can be applied to packages.
  40. * Don't run lilo from inside chroot anymore. This causes severe problems
  41. sometimes including LILO not bootstrapping properly.
  42. * Bring back the PPC book (recreate from scratch using current intel
  43. book) using Jesse McCrosky's notes at
  44. http://download.linuxfromscratch.org/misc/ppc-notes.txt
  45. and the patch to the 'patch' package at:
  46. http://download.linuxfromscratch.org/misc/ppc-patch.patch
  47. * Add descriptions what the patches do we use (like the console-tools and gzip
  48. patches)
  49. * Try out Slackware's MAKEDEV script and see if it's any better than the
  50. currently used one. A copy can be found at
  51. http://download.linuxfromscratch.org/misc/Slackware-MAKEDEV
  52. * Add netkit-base and net-tools to Appendix A.
  53. * Suggest using this command to strip debug symbols after you finish
  54. chapter 6: find $LFS -type f -exec strip --strip-debug '{}' ';'
