  10. <para>Finally, clean up some extra files left around from running tests:</para>

  12. <para>Now log out and reenter the chroot environment with an updated
  13. chroot command. From now on, use this updated chroot command any time
  14. you need to reenter the chroot environment after exiting:</para>

  21. <para>The reason for this is that the programs in <filename
  22. class="directory">/tools</filename> are no longer needed. For this reason
  23. you can delete the <filename class="directory">/tools</filename>
  24. directory if so desired.</para>

  26. <para>Removing <filename class="directory">/tools</filename> will also
  27. remove the temporary copies of Tcl, Expect, and DejaGNU which were used
  28. for running the toolchain tests. If you need these programs later on,
  29. they will need to be recompiled and re-installed. The BLFS book has
  30. instructions for this (see <ulink url="&blfs-root;"/>).</para>

  32. <para>If the virtual kernel file systems have been unmounted, either manually
  33. or through a reboot, ensure that the virtual kernel file systems are mounted
  34. when reentering the chroot. This process was explained in <xref
  35. linkend="ch-system-bindmount"/> and <xref
  36. linkend="ch-system-kernfsmount"/>.</para>
  37. <para>There were several static libraries that were not suppressed earlier
  38. in the chapter in order to satisfy the regression tests in several packages. These
  39. libraries are from binutils, bzip2, e2fsprogs, flex, libtool, and zlib. If desired,
  40. remove them now:</para>

  47. <para>There are also several files installed in the /usr/lib and /usr/libexec
  48. directories with a file name extention of .la. These are "libtool archive"
  49. files and generally unneeded on a linux system. None of these are necessary
  50. at this point. To remove them, run:</para>
