  1. 2010-05-29 Matt Burgess <matthew@linuxfromscratch.org>
  2. * lfs/init.d/udev: Only copy /lib/udev/devices/null, as Udev >= 155 copies
  3. devices from /lib/udev/devices to /dev itself. Udevd still needs /dev/null
  4. present before starting up though.
  5. 2010-04-20 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  6. * lfs/init.d/udev, lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Add --action=add, to handle udev
  7. version 152 and newer, which send "change" events by default in udevtrigger
  8. now.
  9. 2010-01-24 Matthew Burgess <matthew@linuxfromscratch.org>
  10. * lfs/init.d/udev: Check to see if /dev is already mounted, as it may be if
  11. under an initramfs environment. See ticket #2550.
  12. 2009-08-14 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  13. * lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Use "udevadm trigger --type=failed", which
  14. apparently replaced "--retry-failed" some time ago. "--retry-failed" is
  15. removed in udev-146.
  16. 2009-01-02 Bruce Dubbs <bdubbs@linuxfromscratch.org>
  17. * lfs/init.d/functions:
  18. * lfs/sysconfig/network-devices/ifup:
  19. Updated line widths to accomodate pdf generation in both the above
  20. files.
  21. 2008-10-27 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
  22. * lfs/init.d/cleanfs: Removed '! -newer /proc' from find commands in
  23. check for stale files in /var/lock and /var/run.
  24. * Makefile: Reversed cleanfs and udev_retry scripts so that cleanfs
  25. runs immediately after mountfs.
  26. 2008-10-26 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  27. * lfs/init.d/functions: Remove stale pid files when encountered
  28. in loadproc/killproc/reloadproc. When the bootscript specifies
  29. a pid file to use with the "-p pidfile" argument, *proc
  30. functions previously bailed out when the referenced file
  31. contains an invalid pid.
  32. 2008-10-23 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
  33. * lfs/init.d/console: Removed BROKEN_COMPOSE as kernel patch has
  34. been accepted upstream.
  35. 2008-05-21 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  36. * lfs/init.d/udev, lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Use new udevadm program.
  37. 2007-08-20 DJ Lucas <dj@linuxfromscratch.org>
  38. * lfs/init.d/setclock: Added missing 'stop' argument to usage text
  39. 2007-08-13 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  40. * lfs/init.d/checkfs: Don't suppress error messages from the screen.
  41. 2007-07-18 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  42. * Makefile, lfs/init.d/consolelog: New bootscript controlling the
  43. kernel log level on the console. This is controlled by the LOGLEVEL
  44. variable in /etc/sysconfig/console.
  45. * lfs/init.d/modules: Remove the log level handling since this is
  46. done in the consolelog script now.
  47. * lfs/init.d/modules: Clean up the script by removing the file
  48. descriptor duplication and instead just redirecting
  49. /etc/sysconfig/modules to the input of the while loop.
  50. 2007-06-16 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  51. * lfs/init.d/mountfs, lfs/init.d/mountkernfs, lfs/init.d/setclock,
  52. lfs/init.d/modules, lfs/sysconfig/network-devices/if{up,down}:
  53. Don't suppress stderr during bootscripts unless necessary. This
  54. would prevent potentially critical messages from reaching the screen.
  55. 2007-04-24 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  56. * lfs/init.d/functions: When killproc is executed, it checks that
  57. the process is still running, sleeps if it is, then checks again.
  58. The sleep is 1 second in between checks. By sleeping for 0.1 seconds
  59. in between checks, killproc is much faster as it's wasting much
  60. less time sleeping in the normal case that the process has died
  61. after a short delay.
  62. 2007-04-16 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  63. * lfs/init.d/functions: Redirect stderr when using kill to suppress
  64. output.
  65. * lfs/init.d/functions: killproc() was not handling the case where a
  66. pidfile is passed to the function. The logic with the signal to be
  67. used was causing issues with the handling of pidfiles. This has been
  68. fixes, and now killproc() will recheck the process if the signal
  69. was TERM (the default) or KILL.
  70. * lfs/init.d/functions: statusproc() has been changed to use pidofproc()
  71. instead of the deprecated getpids(). Additionally, it now accepts
  72. the -p argument to specify a pidfile.
  73. * lfs/init.d/functions: Currently, statusproc() always returns
  74. successfully, and the only way to know if the process is running
  75. is to parse the output. This changes statusproc() to return the
  76. status of pidofproc(), which will return unsuccessfully if the
  77. requested process is not running.
  78. * lfs/init.d/functions: Changed reloadproc() to use pidofproc() and
  79. respect the -p argument for pidfiles.
  80. * lfs/init.d/sysklogd: Remove a useless argument to reloadproc().
  81. 2007-03-13 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  82. * lfs/init.d/functions: If pidofproc() is passed the -p argument
  83. it can bomb testing a null variable with an integer expression.
  84. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  85. * lfs/init.d/mountfs, lfs/init.d/console, lfs/init.d/setclock,
  86. lfs/init.d/mountkernfs: &> redirection is not supported in POSIX.
  87. Fortunately, it's equivalent to >word 2>&1 according to bash(1).
  88. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  89. * lfs/init.d/console: POSIX says that shells only need to trap on
  90. signals. Trapping on ERR isn't always supported. Conditionals have
  91. been added to set the $failed variable in spots that seemed
  92. appropriate for checking errors.
  93. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  94. * lfs/init.d/functions: Use arithmetic expansion and string length,
  95. which are both mandated by POSIX, rather than spawning two processes
  96. every time boot_mesg() is called.
  97. 2007-02-22 Dan Nicholson <dnicholson@linuxfromscratch.org>
  98. * lfs/init.d/functions: In order to provide an `echo' which provides
  99. handles the -e and -n options for all POSIX shells, a feature test
  100. is added which stores its result in $ECHO. /bin/echo will be used
  101. if the default echo is not capable. Changed the existing functions
  102. to reference $ECHO when needed.
  103. * lfs/init.d/console: Use $ECHO when -en is needed.
  104. 2007-02-03 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  105. * ChangeLog: Rename from CHANGELOG, start using GNU style entries.
  106. * Makefile: Move setclock before checkfs. Fixes #1948.
  107. 2006-11-25 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>
  108. * lfs/init.d/udev_retry: Copy Debian's "copy generated rules" initscript
  109. code, to clean up when the rule_generator scripts run before / is
  110. writable. (Since the rule_generator code is from Debian, I assume their
  111. cleanup code is appropriate.)
  112. 2006-10-15 Bryan Kadzban <bryan@linuxfromscratch.org>

  638. * Reorganized functions, based upon Ash Compliancy Patch
  639. * Added a sleep 5 to failure for evaulate_retval, and changed
  640. evaulate_retval to return true instead of false. Instead, a
  641. exit 1 will indicate the script terminated abnormally, causing
  642. your system to wait until you hit ctrl-J
  643. * Switched "Press enter to continue" to "Press <ctrl-j> to continue"
  644. * replaced 3 with $KILLDELAY in sendsignals
  645. * mountfs does not mount network filesystems [identified by _netdev
  646. in /etc/fstab]
  647. * removed unneded touch out of cleanfs
  648. n/a - January 30, 2004:
  649. * New maintainers for the lfs-bootscripts package are:
  650. Jeremy Utley (jeremy@linuxfromscratch.org)
  651. Nathan Coulson (nathan@linuxfromscratch.org)
  652. 1.11 - February 3rd, 2003:
  653. * /etc/mtab is now a real file and is handled correctly so there are
  654. no errors even when the machine has crashed.
  655. 1.10 - September 12th, 2002:
  656. * Fixed up checkfs to work with non-ext2 filesystems too (such as
  657. minix).
  658. 1.9 - April 5th, 2002:
  659. * reloadproc function had a missing '=' in the "failure 1" command (it
  660. should be failure=1)
  661. * When script exists with unexpected value, you have to hit "Enter" to
  662. continue, not just a random key as printed on the screen.
  663. * Moved K10sysklogd, K20sendsignals, K30mount and K40swap to
  664. K40sysklogd, K50sendsignals, K60mount, K70swap
  665. * Changed the #!/bin/sh lines to #!/bin/bash - /bin/sh may not be
  666. linked to bash but to some other shell of your choice. These scripts
  667. are written to work with bash, so you can't just run them when
  668. /bin/sh -> csh or ash or whatever else tickles your fancy. This
  669. change should fix that.
  670. 1.8 - March 14th, 2002:
  671. * Fixed the getpids function call so PPID's would be taken into account
  672. properly.
  673. * Added the 'contrib' directory with other people's bootscript
  674. implementations.
  675. 1.7 - March 10th, 2002:
  676. * Used code from Matthias Benkmann's simpleinit-msb @
  677. http://winterdrache.de/linux/newboot/index.html mainly for improved
  678. killproc function handling
  679. * When a requested process isn't running, or is already running, a
  680. warning "Not running" or "Already running" will be displayed. This
  681. was out of allignment due to a missing $CURS_UP
  682. * Removed "||exit" from ifup and ifdown scripts. They are useless.
  683. * Changed the loadkeys script to run "loadkeys -d" and removed the need
  684. for the /etc/sysconfig/keyboard file. The kbd patch fixes the
  685. "loadkeys -d" behaviour.
  686. 1.6 - February 26th, 2002:
  687. * replaced -o %PPID with -o $PPID throughout the functions script. This
  688. construct does what it's supposed to do (don't take PPID into account
  689. because this would fail if a running daemon and the bootscript have
  690. the same name).
  691. * added 'restart' to the swap script
  692. * instead of using 'echo -n' to supress newlines so the [ OK ] and
  693. related messages allign properly, substitute this with a single echo
  694. command that simply goes one line up before outputting anything. This
  695. also has the benefit that when programs have their own output (like
  696. swapon, fsck and loadkeys), there won't be an unwanted blank line
  697. between the program's output and the [ OK ] et all. messages.
  698. 1.5 - February 2nd, 2002:
  699. * added 'exit 1' to the statusproc function when there aren't enough
  700. parameters passed to it (such as the name of process to check for)
  701. 1.4 - February 2nd, 2002:
  702. * when /fastboot is detected and the message about it is printed,
  703. don't run 'exit 1' else the rc script will cause a [FAILED] to
  704. be printed which is undesired in this case.
  705. 1.3 - January 30th, 2002:
  706. * network script: changed default route detection by using the same
  707. method as used when starting the script: check if the GATEWAY
  708. variable is set
  709. * removed the emptying of /etc/mtab since it's a symlink to
  710. /proc/mounts now
  711. * added the mountproc script which mounts the proc system. This is done
  712. because we need proc mounted even before the mountfs script is ran
  713. (now that /etc/mtab is a symlink to /proc/mounts)
  714. * removed all absolute paths from command calls
  715. * added umask 022 and PATH="/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin" to the
  716. functions script. Every file now sources this so that umask and PATH
  717. are set correctly
  718. 1.2 - January 26th, 2002:
  719. * network script: detect if a default route is set before removing it
