| 1234567891011121314151617181920212223242526272829303132333435 | <sect2><title>Command explanations</title><para><userinput>patch -Np1 -i../ncurses-&ncurses-version;-patch:</userinput> This patch fixes a compileproblem with GCC-3.1 because Ncurses uses constructions that are no longervalid in the new C++ standard.</para><para><userinput>--with-shared:</userinput> This enables the build of theshared ncurses library files.</para><para><userinput>--disable-termcap:</userinput> Disabled the compilation oftermcap fall back support.</para><para><userinput>mv /lib/*.a /usr/lib :</userinput> Thismoves all of the static ncurses library files from /lib to /usr/lib./lib should only contain the shared files which are essential to thesystem when /usr may not be mounted.</para><para><userinput>chmod 755 *.5.2:</userinput> Shared libraries should beexecutable.  Ncurses install routine doesn't set the permissionsproperly so we do it manually instead.</para><para><userinput>ln -sf libncurses.a libcurses.a:</userinput> Someprograms try to link using -lcurses instead of -lncurses.  This symlinkensures that such programs will link without errors.</para><para><userinput>ln -sf ../../lib/libncurses.so etc:</userinput> Thesesymlinks are created to tidy up the installation. It's good practice tohave the *.so files in /usr/lib as well as in /lib, to ensure that thelinker is always able to find the files whether it's looking in /lib or/usr/lib.</para></sect2>
